Toxoplasma gondii whole-cell antigen for modified agglutination test (MAT): Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects mammals and birds. A modified agglutination test (MAT) can be used to detect anti-Toxoplasma IgG antibodies in serum, plasma and other bodily fluid samples of animals. For MAT test, formalin-treated Toxoplasma tachyzoite is used as the antigen.

TgMAT Antigen

Toxoplasma gondii whole-cell antigen for modified agglutination test (MAT): Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects mammals and birds. A modified agglutination test (MAT) can be used to detect anti-Toxoplasma IgG antibodies in serum, plasma and other bodily fluid samples of animals. For MAT test, formalin-treated Toxoplasma tachyzoite is used as the antigen. The presence of anti-Toxoplasma IgG antibody in the samples will cause the antigens in suspension to form a mat of cells covering the bottom of a U-shaped well. Samples without pellets at the bottom of wells are positive, samples with pellets are negative.

This whole-cell antigen was prepared using Toxoplasma gondii RH strain cultivated in human foreskin fibroblast cell culture. The tachyzoites harvested from cell culture were treated with formalin, which renders tachyzoites non-viable, non-infective, and non-hazardous.
