John oversees all of the technology commercialization activities stemming from the research performed at UT Chattanooga, UT Knoxville, UT Institute of Agriculture, and the UT Space Institute. Prior to joining UTRF, John was an Associate Professor in Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering at the UT Space Institute. John has extensive experience in technology-based business development, including research and intellectual property discovery, protection and licensing. He has also been involved in more than ten start-up companies, including roles as founder, technology inventor, licensor of intellectual property and business development. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from UT and an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University. John holds 11 patents.
